How To Activate Airtel Payment Bank’s Dormant Account

Updated: 19/12/23 | By Chandrakant

If you haven’t used your Airtel Payment Bank account for several months, it may become dormant. This means you won’t be able to withdraw or deposit money, or use your account balance for recharges and payments. This post will guide you on how to reactivate your dormant Airtel Payment Bank account.

Why Your account become Dormant?

As you are facing issues because of the inactive account, you ust understand the reason behind this. So that, you don’t face such situation in the future.

1. No Transaction

Your account becomes dormant if you do not perform any credit or debit transactions for 24 months. This rule applies to all banks and is a regulation set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

For the purposes of this rule, a “credit” refers to a deposit of any amount initiated by you or on your behalf, either manually or through automated systems controlled by you. This includes deposits made by yourself, another person , or automated systems you have set up (e.g., salary credit from your employer).

However, it does not include credits automatically deposited by the bank, such as interest or subsidies.

Similarly, automatic deductions for charges like SMS or debit card fees are not considered transactions initiated by you and will not prevent your account from becoming dormant.

When you don’t perform any transactions on your bank account for a continuous period of 2 years (24 months), the bank classifies it as dormant.

2. Zero Balance for Long Time

Airtel Payment Bank, like other payment banks, doesn’t penalize you for having a zero balance. In fact, all payment banks are required to offer zero balance accounts.

However, keeping your account inactive with no transactions for six months will cause it to become dormant. This is done as a precautionary measure to prevent misuse of such accounts.

What Can You Do with Dormant Account

While a dormant account has certain limitations, you can still manage it and access some key information.

Restrictions

  • Withdrawals: Cash withdrawals from ATMs are unavailable.
  • Online Transactions: Internet banking transactions are not permitted.
  • UPI Payments: Making UPI payments through apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, and Paytm is not possible.
