#UPIChalega: Where can We Use UPI Payment system

I told you in my last article about #UPI Chalega campaign of NPCI. The main objective of the campaign is to increase the usage of UPI payment system with the ultimate feature of safe transactions. Thus NPCI is trying to drive up the UPI system for all types of financial transactions big or small.

That’s why the #UPI Chalega campaign is conveying a message that you may use UPI for almost all type of transactions. In this post, I will tell you the main places where you can use this payment system. So, let us start-

uses of UPI payment system

You should know that there are more than 50 UPI Apps. These are SBI Pay, imobile, pockets, Phonepe, Paytm, Mobikwik, Google Pay, etc. Almost every banks has its own UPI app. You can assume that today every payment related apps has this facility.

1. Using UPI for Peer to Peer Transaction

The first and foremost use of UPI system is to transfer the fund between the users. You may use this payment system to send money to your friends, relatives and others. Also, you can receive money from friends. This is a peer to peer transaction.

For this purpose, you have to go through your UPI app. Then you have four ways to send money.

  1. Select the mobile contact to whom you want to send money.
  2. You may send money through the bank account and IFSC of the beneficiary. So, you must know the account details of the beneficiary.
  3. The third method is to enter the UPI ID of the beneficiary. The UPI ID is also known as Virtual Payment Address (VPA).
  4. Moreover, you may send money by scanning the QR code of your friend. For this, you have to scan QR in the App of your friend through the QR scanner of your app.

Also, you may request money from your friends through the Request feature of UPI app. If your friend accepts the request, you may receive payment directly in your bank account.

2. Utility Bill Payments

You may use UPI for your monthly bill payments like electricity, postpaid mobile bill, cooking gas bill payment, insurance premium etc.

Enter the details of your bill in the app and fetch the bill. Select the UPI option if you are using the payment app like Paytm and proceed to pay. Enter the UPI PIN and payment completed.

Thus it makes the bill payment easy and hassle free. No need to go to the office of the service provider to stand in a queue.

Moreover, you can pay through the website of the service provider using this system. There, select the UPI option among all payment options. When you proceed, it will send a payment request to your UPI app. Accept the request through the app and make payment.

After the bill payment you would also receive a soft copy of the bill receipt in your app. You can download or save it.

In the same way, you can recharge your prepaid mobile, DTH, Data Card etc.

3. Using UPI for Offline Shopping

UPI is also facilitating you with payment for offline shopping at your nearby favourite stores. So, now #UPIChalega in the Shopping Malls, Kirana Stores including the vegetable vendors as well. Here you have to pay by scanning the QR code.

Thus open your UPI app. Scan the QR code of the vendor’s app. Enter the amount, tap on pay. Enter the PIN as usual and make payment. Isn’t it so easy?

Moreover, you can also pay by entering the the UPI ID of the vendor instead of scanning the QR code.

4. Online Shopping

Along with the payment at stores, you may also pay for online shopping through the UPI as well. When you proceed for payment through this system, the shopping website send you a request in your app. Follow the same procedure. Accept the request and pay for the product. The amount will be deducted from your bank account.

5. Online Food Order or at the Restaurants

The UPI may be used for online food order or at your favourite restaurants. If you order online then you will receive a payment request same as in online shopping. Rest procedure will be the same.

However, if you are in the restaurant, there you have two options to pay the bill. Either by scanning the QR code or by receiving the request in your app.

6. Payment at your doorstep

You can also use UPI Payment system for the doorstep payments. It is used at the time of goods or food delivery.

In this process if you show your intent to pay through the UPI, the delivery man would send you a request for the payment. You have to only approve that payment by entering the PIN in your app.

You can also pay the required amount by scanning the QR code from the app of the delivery man.

7. Travel and Railway Ticket Booking

Now you may book all type of travel tickets including railway ticket bookings. Thus UPI Chalega in the bus, railway, air and cab bookings as well. The procedure of booking in different types of travels may differ. But you can enjoy the ticket booking at your home.

For example, if you book the railways, bus and air tickets you receive a request in your app. You have to accept it and payment will be done from your linked bank account.

If you use the UPI app like Phonepe or Paytm directly to book, you can pay by entering the PIN only.

Moreover, for cab booking, you can pay through the VPA or by scanning the QR code. Thus you have to enter the VPA of the payee or scan the QR code in the payee’s app.

8. Movie Ticket Booking

This payment system not only facilitates you with the payment facilities but also gives opportunities to entertain yourself. Hence, you can pay your movie tickets and other events through your app. It is same as payment through the cards or net banking options. Only you have to select the UPI option and enter the UPI ID.

10. Use of UPI in The FASTag Recharge

Now you can recharge your FASTag wallet balance through the UPI App. This option is available along with other recharge options. As you know FASTag is an RFID tag for the cashless entry at the toll plaza. With the permission of Reserve Bank of India, the NPCI is giving this facility.

Thus you can enjoy your trip with a hassle-free recharge of FASTag through BHIM UPI Apps anywhere and anytime.

11. Investment in Mutual Fund and in an IPO

This is the superb use of UPI. You may invest in Mutual Fund and in IPOs. Even there is a higher limit of Rs 2 lakhs when you invest in IPO through the payment system. Normally UPI limit is Re 1 lakh in 24 hours.

Thus, use your UPI app for a SIP in Mutual Fund and IPO subscription. The SEBI has permitted for this. So, you have to use your UPI ID in the App to invest in these investment..

Hence, these are the main places where you may use UPI app. Moreover, there are also some other types of transactions for which you can use this payment system. Have a look-

  • Payment at the chemist’s stores through QR scanning
  • Payment at fuel stations
  • Room booking at the hotels through QR or Request feature
  • Credit Card bill payment
  • Shopping at the Airport etc.
