Very Important Points for UPI PIN Change
- There is a very good thing about the UPI PIN change. Your changed PIN works in other apps as well.
- The UPI has no direct relationship with the app, rather it is linked to your bank account.
- Your every linked bank account would have different UPI PIN. So, the new PIN would not work for other bank accounts.
- It is similar to the ATM PIN. As ATM PIN of a bank account works in every ATM, UPI PIN of a bank account works in every other UPI app.

2. In the next page, there are 3 sections. These are the Insurance, Investment and Payment. In the payment section, the first service is ‘Bank Accounts’. You have to tap on that.

3. Now, this page contains all of your linked bank accounts. There would be at least one bank account. You can also add other bank accounts if you have.
4. Now choose the bank account for which you want to change the PIN.
5. You would not see the full account number. It is hidden for security. You can identify your desired bank account by the last digits. So, tap on the desired bank account number.

6. Now, the Dedicated page for that bank account opens. Through this page, you can also check the balance of that account.
7. Along with that, you can also Change and Reset Your UPI PIN. If you know your UPI PIN and want to change it for security purpose, tap on the ‘change’.

8. But if you forgot your UPI PIN and want to create the new PIN, use the Reset link. I am going to describe the steps for both of them. But let’s start with the UPI PIN change.
9. Tap on the ‘Change’ link. It opens a UPI PIN change page.
The UPI PIN Change page is generated from the central server of the UPI Payment system by the NPCI. This page is the same in every other UPI app. As this page is generated by the UPI Payment system of the NPCI, your PIN remains safe. In fact, because of the arrangement, your UPI app does not deal with your UPI PIN. Thus, the security of your UPI PIN lies with the NPCI. The NPCI is the agency which manages the whole UPI System. The RBI supervises this agency.
- Now enter your existing UPI PIN correctly. In the next field, you have to enter your New UPI PIN. In most of the cases, this PIN would be 4 digits. But SBI and some other banks require 6 digit UPI PIN. A 6 digit PIN is considered more secure than 4 digits.

You must take every precaution to keep your UPI PIN secret. Since UPI PIN is used frequently, it gets exposed. That is why it is necessary to change UPI PIN, from time to time. Also, your UPI PIN should be hard to guess. So choose your new PIN accordingly.
- After entering the new PIN tap on the Right mark. You would find it at the end of the numeric pad.
- Note, your new UPI PIN would work only with the selected bank account. So, if you wish, you can further change the UPI PIN of other bank accounts. For that, you can again go to the bank accounts page.

Changed Transaction Limit
Note, as you change or reset UPI PIN, your money transfer limit comes down. For the next 24 hours, you would not be able to pay more than ₹5000. Don’t complain, this limit is created only for the safety of your money. It limits the chances of fraud if someone tries to reset your UPI PIN.
After the 24 hours, the transaction limit restored to the original. The UPI payment system has set a maximum limit of ₹1 lakh in 24 hours. Also, you can’t transact more than 10 times in 24 hours. However, there is no limit for merchant payment. It can be more than one lakh and as many times as you wish.
How To Reset PIN Through the Phonepe
Till now I have discussed the changing of UPI PIN. Now I would tell you the steps to reset your UPI PIN. But to perform this task, you need an ATM card or debit card.
Although, it is not necessary to keep a physical card. Mere card details would be enough.
- So to reset UPI PIN. Go to the home page of the Phonepe and tap on the My Money tab.
- In the next page tap on the bank accounts link. Now choose the desired bank account.
- In my account page, you have to tap on the Reset link.

4. As you tap on the reset link, a pop-up window would appear.
5. In this window, you have to enter the last 6 digits of the ATM card
As you know every ATM or debit card has a unique 16 digit number. It is written in the groups of 4 digits. So pick the last 6 digits and enter here. It is written there on the card. Every card comprises the issue date and expiry date. In some of the cards, it is labelled as valid through instead of the expiry date. You can see the following image of the ATM card to better understand about the expiry date.
- Next, you have to enter the expiry date of your card. Some of the SBI Maestro cards don’t have the expiry date. If this is the case, enter 01/49 as the expiry date. It would work.

You should note that the process of PIN Reset is similar to the creating a new UPI PIN. In fact, when you reset UPI PIN, you create a new UPI PIN. It is the same thing for the UPI Payment system.
7. After entering the debit or ATM card details tap on the Continue.
8. Now you have the UPI PIN reset page. In this page, you have to enter the OTP first. The UPI payment system sends an OTP to your registered mobile number. It must be the same mobile which is in your hands.

9. Your phonepe app itself detects the OTP sent to your mobile number. Thus it is auto-filled in the given field. But if for any reason it does not get filled, you can enter it yourself.
10. Now you have to enter the 4 or 6 digits new UPI PIN. You have to enter the same PIN twice for the confirmation. Note, you must remember this PIN, otherwise, you have to again reset the UPI pin.
11. Now tap on the right mark to complete the PIN Reset process. As you tap on the Right mark the whole process completes.

Points to Note
While you submit the New UPI PIN the UPI Payment system verifies 4 things before resetting it.
- Last 6 digits of the ATM card
- Expiry date
- OTP
- Same UPI PIN in the confirmation field
If there is an error in any of the information, the UPI PIN reset would be unsuccessful. You should be careful about the new PIN. It should be same on both the field. Also, check the expiry date of the debit card. Sometimes the validity of your card ends and you don’t pay attention to this fact. So be careful. Else, you have to repeat the whole process.
