Soon your BHIM app would give an option to pay the Aadhaar number. Only by entering the Aadhaar you would be able to pay to any person. The government is going to unveil this feature of BHIM app.
BHIM app is a type of UPI app. It is developed by the NPCI. This is an independent app.
News of BHIM and Aadhaar Tango
The BHIM will use Aadhaar as Payment address. As of now it uses mobile number, virtual Payment address and Bank account number for the payment.
To use Aadhaar Payment you would have to enter the 12 digit Aadhaar number of the Payee.
The payment to an Aadhaar number would not require any biometric authentication. As you may have heard that you can also pay only by giving your fingerprint through the Aadhaar number. It is separate application of Aadhaar based payment.
It would also not require any prior registration. You would transfer fund immediately by just entering the aadhaar number.
To use this method of payment, the payee must have a Aadhaar linked bank account. Almost 38 crore people has registered their Aadhaar in their bank account.
UIDAI is working with banks and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) for this facility. It expects that this feature would be launched in next few weeks.
You can also transfer money immediately to any person using the mobile number through the BHIM app however this is possible only if the payee has also installed the BHIM app in his/her smartphone. Thus, payment through the mobile number may skip many people as everyone is not comfortable with mobile app.
Through Aadhaar, any person who has smartphone or not can get money directly into his/her bank account.
Two crore people are linking their accounts with Aadhaar every month and total figure for such accounts should go up to 50-60 crore in the next two to three months.
Aadhaar Payment App
The aadhaar payment app for merchant would make the digital payment very easy. You don’t need to carry a phone or card for payment through this method. Your Aadhaar number and finger print would be enough to pay money. You need to give your aadhaar number to the merchant. He will enter it and scan your fingerprints. That is it.
