Aadhar Number Payments
Many BHIM UPI app user was eagerly waiting for Aadhaar based payments. And NPCI has complied with their hopes and introduced this feature with the latest update. You can now pay anyone using only his/her Aadhaar number. This makes UPI payments even easier than before. However, beneficiary account must be linked with Aadhaar number to enjoy this feature. Here are the steps to pay using Aadhaar number.

- Tap on the ‘Send’ tile.
- Here tap on the 3 dots at the top right corner of the screen and select AADHAR PAY option.
- Enter beneficiary Aadhar number.

- After successful verification, BHIM will show you next page. Here you need to enter the amount and remarks. Tap on the Pay after entering the details.
- Enter your UPI Pin in the next screen and submit.
- Your payment is done.
Block Unknown Payment requests
NPCI has also added the option to block payment requests from unknown persons. Earlier, anyone can send you payment requests whether you know him/her or not. And you cannot even report these requests to NPCI. These requests can be easily used as phishing techniques. I have also faced many such spam request as I could not hide my VPA in a post. But now I can block such spam requests.
NPCI realised that it is necessary to stop this type of the requests without affecting authentic requests. Therefore it gave you the right to block any person from sending you payment requests as well as report it to NPCI. You can also unblock someone you accidentally blocked.
Improved Privacy settings
NPCI also improved the privacy settings of the BHIM UPI app. It now gives you the option to disable your mobile_number@upi virtual payment address. This type of VPAs can be easily guessed and misused. Hence having the option to disable these is a good thing for every BHIM app user.
New Languages support
Earlier versions of the BHIM UPI app supported Hindi and English. But with the latest update, developers have included 3 more languages with BHIM. These are Indian regional languages. These languages are Marathi, Punjabi and Assamese. Now, BHIM App is available in 12 languages. It will speed up the BHIM’s adoption. Previously added languages are Hindi, English, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya, Tamil and Telugu.
Report an issue and check status
You can now also report issues in BHIM regarding any transaction. These reports can be sent directly from that transaction details page. Moreover, you can also check the status of the resolution of that issue. Earlier, you had to depend on the customer service phone calls for checking status. None of the other UPI apps gives you the facility like this.
Reverse a received payment
NPCI has introduced a unique feature for reversing a received payment. It is useful when you have to return the money you received from your friend or customer. All you need to do now is go to that transaction’s details page and tap on the REFUND TRANSACTION option. Then tap on the pay and enter your UPI Pin. The received payment will be reversed and money will be sent to that person. You can also change the amount and remarks if you want.
Restore forgotten passcode
Restoring forgotten passcode is a much-needed option not only for BHIM but for any other app. Because we often forget passwords and passcodes. With the latest update, BHIM UPI app got this feature also. Now you can reset your passcode in case you forget it. You need to tap on the Forgot Passcode option at the passcode entering screen. BHIM app will again send an SMS to verify your mobile number. After successful verification it allows you to set your new passcode.
Enhanced QR feature
NPCI also added the enhanced QR code feature with the latest BHIM update. Now customers can browse the QR code’s images they saved in the photo gallery. They can directly choose the image and scan the QR code make payment. You do not need to use your camera to scan a QR code if you have saved that in your gallery. It will be handy in the situations when the person is not near you. And still, he/she wants to receive payment using QR code. All he/she needs to do is send the QR code as an image file using WhatsApp or Email.
Send money to Contacts
Suppose you have to send money to one of your friends using the mobile number. And you don’t remember his mobile number. Don’t worry, NPCI has provided the solution with the latest update. It has added the much-awaited feature of sending money to contacts. Now, you are able to browse the contacts within the BHIM app to make payments. Just choose your friend’s number from your contact list and send money. It is quite easy and convenient, isn’t it?
Check Referral Reward
You can also check the bonus of BHIM app referral scheme. This Scheme gives ₹25 bonus to every new user and ₹10 bonus to every reference. To check the bonus you have to go the transaction section. There tap on the three dots. Now you would see the link for rewards.
Along with these, some other minor changes are also made with this update. You can retry mobile number registration through OTP or USSD. You can also change your mobile number if you have a dual SIM mobile phone. Although the BHIM was a good UPI app already. But with the latest updates good is getting better now. Now it is even better than PhonePe and SBI Pay. It is really on the top of the best UPI apps.
There is an interesting offshoot of the BHIM app. The NPCI has developed a BHIM Aadhaar Platform which has made cashless transaction very easy. This platform does not require any device for making payment. The fingerprint is used for authentication.
