How to Send Money using BHIM App

The Indian government is taking one step after the other to make India a cashless or ‘less-cash’ economy. This time, it has launched its own UPI app to help you in being cashless. The name of this app is BHIM UPI app. This is an abbreviation for Bharat Interface for money. The government is claiming it to be secure, simple and super fast. The app really has all these qualities. Its interface is simpler than almost every other UPI apps. The interface is somewhat similar to SBI Pay. Sending money using BHIM app is more simple than you think. You just need to follow some easy steps to send money with it.

Sending money through BHIM UPI app

Sending money to anyone is never been easy. But now, it is as easy as you can imagine. It just needs some taps of your finger on your smartphone screen. Moreover,  the number of taps are even reduced with the revolutionary launch of the BHIM UPI app. It has a lots of potential to be the best UPI app. This app is only available for android smartphones. Soon there would be BHIM app for iOS as well. 

Initial steps

You can send money through BHIM UPI app only after you complete these initial steps.

Install BHIM app

Firstly, you need to install BHIM UPI app on your smartphone. Go to the android play store and search for BHIM app. Don’t get confused with the apps which have names similar to BHIM. Only install the version which is developed by National Payment Corporations of India. You can also click here to go directly to the BHIM app’s install page. Tap on the install button to install the app on your smartphone.

Add a bank account

BHIM passcode PIN In order to send money through BHIM UPI app, you have to add your bank account. When you launch BHIM UPI app for the first time it asks you to set an app password. Set an easy to remember but hard to guess the password for the app. mobile verrificationAfter setting the password, the app asks you to choose your SIM. Choose the number which you have registered with your bank account. The app will send a message from your mobile number to verify it. add bank accounts BHIMAfter successful verification, the app will show you all listed banks. Choose your bank with the list and tap on it. The BHIM app will pick your account automatically with the help of your mobile number. Tap on that account to confirm and you are ready to send or receive money.

Primary Steps

You can send money through BHIM UPI app using several methods such as mobile number, VPA and Bharat QR code. I am going to tell you the steps for all these methods one by one.

Send money using mobile number or VPA

  1. Launch the BHIM UPI app.
  2. Enter app password to get access.
  3. Tap on the Send tile.
  4. Enter beneficiary mobile number or VPA.
  5. Tap on the Verify to check if the mobile number or VPA is valid. After successful verification, the app will take you to the payment page.
  6. Enter the amount and remarks (optional) and hit Pay.
  7. The app will then ask your UPI PIN which is your mobile banking MPIN. Enter it and proceed.
  8. Your payment will be done instantly and you as well as the beneficiary will get a confirmation message.

Note: You can use beneficiary’s mobile number to pay only if the number is registered with UPI.

Send money using QR Code

  1. Launch the BHIM UPI app.
  2. Enter app password to get access.
  3. Tap on the Scan and Pay tile to open QR code scanner.
  4. Scan the QR code of the beneficiary.
  5. The app will read and pick the details in QR code automatically. It will also take you to the payments page directly after successful QR code scan.
  6. Enter the amount and remarks (optional) here and hit Pay.
  7. The app will then ask your UPI Pin which is your mobile banking MPIN. Enter it and proceed.
  8. Your payment will be done instantly and you as well as the beneficiary will get a confirmation message.

Note: Scan the QR code which is generated by a UPI app or the website http://upiqr.in. Do not scan the QR code which is generated by some other e-wallet apps such as Paytm. QR codes generated by Paytm are not UPI QR codes.
