BHIM UPI apps give you an option to pay using the Aadhaar number. In this method of payment, you use the Aadhaar number of the beneficiary. This method is similar to the payment through the mobile number. Besides this, you can use mobile number, virtual payment address and account number to pay using BHIM UPI. The option of Aadhaar number would be useful if the beneficiary does not use a smartphone. The basic BHIM app was the first to adopt Aadhaar number for payments. Now, BHIM UPI apps of banks have also integrated the payment through Aadhaar.
You would know the BHIM UPI is the payment system which facilitates the instant transfer of money. This system has changed the whole fund transfer system in India. Initially, BHIM name was given to government-promoted UPI app. It is a Standalone BHIM App by the NPCI. But now BHIM name is prefixed with the UPI system. Hence, all theUPI apps are now BHIM UPI apps.
Aadhaar is 12 digit number given to each Indian citizen. You can’t get a second Aadhaar number as it is based on your fingerprint and iris image. Government is using this number extensively to ascertain the identity.
To pay using the Aadhaar number, you should fulfill following two conditions
- You must know the Aadhaar number of the Beneficiary.
- The beneficiary must have linked Aadhaar with the bank account.
How To Pay Using Aadhaar Number of Beneficiary
The method is exactly similar to other payments. You have to go through the following steps.
- Open your BHIM app or any other BHIM UPI based apps using the PIN.
- Select the option to send money.
- Choose the option of Aadhaar number to pay.
- Enter 12 digit Aadhaar number
- Enter the amount and remarks
- Enter the UPI PIN for authentication.
- The transaction would be successful.
The payment to an Aadhaar number would not require any biometric authentication. As you may have heard that you can also pay only by giving your fingerprint through the Aadhaar number. It is separate application of Aadhaar based payment.
It would also not require any prior registration. You would transfer fund immediately by just entering the aadhaar number.
UIDAI is working with banks and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) for this facility.
You can also transfer money immediately to any person using the mobile number through the BHIM app, however, this is possible only if the payee has also installed the BHIM app in his/her smartphone. Thus, payment through the mobile number may skip many people as everyone is not comfortable with the mobile app.
Through Aadhaar, any person who has a smartphone or not can get money directly into his/her bank account.
