BHIM app has superseded all the existing UPI app. It is one of the most downloaded app at the Google playstore. But, is BHIM is really better than SBI Pay. Lets us forgets about the downloads and compare the BHIM vs SBI Pay.
Although there are too many competitors of BHIM such ICICI UPI app, HDFC UPI app, Axis Pay, PhonePe etc. But SBI Pay is the real challenger of the BHIM as this app also simple like BHIM and comes from the SBI- largest bank of India. Here is my opinion on both the app and which one should you use.

BHIM vs SBI Pay: Interface & Ease of use
The user interface of BHIM UPI app is a good to look interface. I loved the app’s interface a lot. It has the minimal interface. The app has not too many options listed on its home screen. It has three options to transfer money named Send, Request and Scan and Pay. These options are beautifully placed on the home screen in form of tiles. The icons for the tiles are very simple. You can easily guess the option by looking at icons and without even reading its name.
On the other hand, SBI Pay has a little bit chunky interface when compared with BHIM UPI app. It has six options at the bottom half of the screen. Which makes finding an option slightly difficult. So In this front, BHIM is clear winner.
BHIM UPI app has all the necessary features of UPI. These includes sending money using VPA, sending money using the mobile number and even sending money by scanning a QR code. However, NPCI has not yet included some features which would have made the app more useful.
BHIM UPI app does not add more than one bank accounts at a time. If you want to use UPI with your another account, you have to change your account. Whereas, you can add more than one account in SBI UPI app.
Moreover, BHIM UPI app does not have the option to send money using IFSC and account number. Hence, you cannot send money to the people who do not use UPI. The app also does not have the option to approve payment requests. Both these options are also present in SBI UPI app.
Although, BHIM app has some additional options which are not available in SBI Pay. You can generate a QR code using BHIM app itself. And you can scan a UPI QR code also to make payments. BHIM app can send money using only the mobile number if the beneficiary has a UPI activated account.
The payment through the mobile number is very useful feature of the UPI app. As we keep the mobile number of all the friends and acquaintances, this feature is really better than any other payee address. However, SBI Pay has many more features and I would give equal numbers to both.

Why do you prefer digital payments over cash? Because digital payments are faster and convenient. Everyone wants a fast and smooth UPI app. Here the SBI Pay failed to impress me. The main drawback of the SBI UPI app is its speed. When we launch the app, it takes over a minute to load. SBI Pay servers are way too slower than the BHIM UPI app. The SBI Pay does not give us smooth experience. On the other hand being super fast is one of the many characteristics of BHIM UPI app. It loads in less than 2 seconds and transactions are also faster.
In the security concern, both BHIM UPI app and SBI Pay are secure enough to protect your money. These apps have two-step authentication along with a 4-digit app password. The first step is your mobile number and second is your UPI PIN/MPIN. Hence if you lose your mobile phone, no one can make a transaction with it. Because no one can send money with these apps without knowing your UPI PIN/MPIN. Moreover, these apps are locked with a password which only you know.
After testing and comparing BHIM app and SBI Pay, I found that BHIM is a clear winner as of now. Former is better in terms of features and the later is in terms of ease of use and speed. Also, BHIM is going to include the fingerprint authentication and Aadhaar payment. It would make it far better payment app than any other app.
